EE Week In Full Swing & is a Family Event

EE Week is a week of environmental education lessons & activities offered to the students of Soldier Hollow Charter School. Lessons compliment the Utah Core Curriculum & are designed to make the students aware of natural communities around them & how they can positively affect them.  There are many optional, fun activities your child can join during the week. For each activity they join, they will receive a GREEN DEED Ticket to enter in a drawing for prizes (and learn so much more!).

K-2nd grades will be in multiaged groups and learning about Utah plants & animals:

  • Monday = Get into Groups
  • Tuesday = Crazy Hair Day – Wild for Utah Wildlife
  • Wednesday = Soldier Hollow Proud – Wear your SHCS t-shirt or hoodie. Field trip to Midway Fish hatchery & clean up Memorial Hill.
  • Thursday = Wear a Flora (Plant) or Fauna (Animal) or EE theme shirt. Field Trip to Wheeler Farm and The Living Planet Aquarium. ($3/child)
  • Friday = School-wide cleanup & BBQ

3rd-8th grades will be in multiaged groups and learning about Biodiversity:

  • Monday = Get into Groups
  • Tuesday = Crazy Hair Day – Biodiversity on the Brain
  • Wednesday = Soldier Hollow Proud – Wear your SHCS t-shirt or hoodie. Field trip to Midway Fish hatchery & Jordanelle Dam. ($7 bus fee)
  • Thursday = Out of this World Alien FashionWear a Flora (Plant) or Fauna (Animal) or EE theme shirt
  • Friday = Wear a Flora (Plant) or Fauna (Animal) or EE theme shirt. School-wide cleanup & BBQ

All Week :

  • Litterless Lunch- Waste at school is a mounting problem! Talk with your child about how they can reduce their lunch waste. Compost and recycling will be available at school. Students can earn GREEN DEED tickets for reducing their waste!
  • Recycle Drop- At lunch students can drop off old cell phones, ink cartridges, batteries (alkaline and rechargeable), CD’s, acrylic CD cases, and plastic bags. GREEN DEED Ticket for each item.
  • Penny Drop- To raise funds for habitat restoration we are collecting pennies. Each dollar worth of pennies earns a GREEN DEED ticket. Have your child nominate their favorite organization working to improve habitat (locally or globally).

STILL NEED:

  • Volunteers to chaperon & assist teachers all week!
  • Volunteers on Friday to help with service projects
  • Volunteers on Friday to help with picnic set-up, clean-up, BBQ, etc.
  • Un-wanted, un-breakable dinnerware donations

****Please send your child ready for the weather each day. You may want to provide them with a pack they can carry with them from station to station and include things like a rain poncho, sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, snacks, pencils, and any naturalist tools they may have (magnifying glasses, binoculars, etc.). *******
