Important Times
- 8:15: School Starts
- 11:30-12:30: Lunch
- 2:45: School Ends
Show and Share
Every Friday, your child may bring an item to share during our weekly “Show and Share”. If you child forgets to bring something they will be able to share a story about themselves. In the beginning of the year, it is helpful to practice what they will say about their item. This activity eventually becomes a favorite for all, and supports the importance of developing social and emotional skills of kindergarteners.
Birthdays
Birthdays are ideally celebrated at the end of the day (2:00pm) with a small treat provided by parents. Please contact me ahead of time for scheduling. Feel free to bring pictures of your child to share with the class. If your child’s birthday is during the summer we can either celebrate it on their half birthday or the second to last week of school. Just let me know what you and your child would like to do.
Lunch/Snack
Kids bring their own lunch and morning/afternoon snack. Please limit the amount of sugar in food and drinks. We encourage families to pack lunches in reusable containers whenever possible. I support kids “making healthy choices” with their lunches by eating healthy items first and saving treats for the end of the meal.
Field Trips
Most of our field trips are on Friday’s. We carefully plan these trips encompassing the unit that is being introduced, upon completion, or activities within our community/environment. All children MUST have a booster seat for trips that require driving, and they unfortunately will not be allowed to participate if one is not provided. Most trips are scheduled to leave from the parking lot at 8:30am; making the exchange of the booster seat easier for you and the field trip driver. Drivers/Chaperones of field trips will be given a list of students that they are responsible for the morning of the event.
Behavior Management
The rules in my class are:
-Attentive Listening
-Respect for people and property
-Personal Best on All Work
-No “Put Downs”
I track how they are doing with clips on green yellow and red. If on Friday they have stayed on green all week they will get to pick a prize from the prize box.
Drop Off/Pick Up
Each child is dropped off at the classroom by a parent, or a sibling (third grade and above). At the end of the day I will walk your child down to the lower parking lot and you can pick them up at 2:45.
Homework Folder
Your child will have homework Monday-Thursday. They will also need to read or be read to at least 20 minutes every night. Children who turn in their homework every day and their reading record on Friday’s will move up a level. When they reach certain levels they will get to pick a prize out of the box.
