BIKE & SKI SWAP TODAY

12 noon to 7:00 pm

NEW RAIN/SNOW LOCATION – In the basement of the Ski Lodge

We’ll be accepting items this morning:

• In the lower parking lot during the morning drop.
• After 8:30, please bring them to the basement of the lodge. Please drop items asap, and definitely before 11:30 am so we can get them tagged and ready for the sale.

We’ve got some terrific bargains, including:

• About 20 bikes – ranging from pink princess toddler bikes to a high end road bike and a gorgeous, like-new cruiser that rides like a Porsche. Several like-new bikes for 2^nd – 4^thgraders.
• Lots of Nordic and downhill ski gear in a variety of sizes.
• Several snow boards & boots, including a darling little pink one, and a barely used Burton Feel Good Superfly (149 cm)
• A quick-turning river kayak, complete with a one-hour roll lesson.
• A jogger stroller, a tagalong bike, and a beautiful double Burley trailer.
• Some brand new, Salsa bike accessories (seat post, handlebars, bar stem) as well as seats, handlebars, tool bags, etc.
• Lots of balls, cleats, kids hiking boots, hockey skates, and much more!

SHCS Yearbook: We are starting to assemble pictures for the 2011/2011 SHCS yearbook.  If any parent or teacher has pictures that they would be willing to share with us (preferable via cd/ flash drive/ email/ or other digital format) please drop them off at the office in the PTO box, or contact Tricia Livingstone at 435-657-0955 or [email protected]

School Board Openings: It is election time and the Soldier Hollow Charter School Board has 4 member positions open. We are looking for qualified individuals to throw their hat into the ring.  Besides having a passion for making our school better, we’re looking for candidates with law, finance, academics and/or management and fundraising experience.

It is a job that requires responsibility and commitment but, for the right person, is an important way to help set the directions and growth of the school.

What does the Board do? The Board of Directors is a seven-member group that governs the school.  Their most important function is to provide oversight while staying true to the school’s unique educational focus and charter.

• The term of office for each board member is two years.
• The Board meets the second Tuesday of each month at 6:00pm at the school.

Spring Cleaning…Dust off some books and give them a new home: The SHCS library is gladly accepting book donations!  If you have duplicate books at home or perhaps your children have outgrown some of their books, please feel free to donate them to our school library.  Additionally, if you have suggestions for specific books for the school library or any questions, contact Julia Lowe at [email protected]

Checks can be made out to SHCS with a memo for the Scholastic Literacy Partnership Program. If we each give a little we can give the gift of reading to so many more of our students!

We saw smiles on everyone’s faces all day long. And why, you may wonder? Well, today was SHCS’s annual Winter Olympics.

This is the day where all of our students (K-8th) compete in a variation of these three races (K & 1st did separate races): Biathlon, Relay, and Obstacle course. The courses were challenging to say the least. In the Biathlon, children had to ski one lap, shoot five targets, do a penalty lap if necessary, and finally tag their teammate. In the Obstacle Course, students had to step over/ski under fences, do pushups, ski under tarps and around poles before reaching the finish line. And, finally students had to ski one lap around the school for the relay race.

Even though most children were exhausted after the events, some mustered up enough energy to race alongside the teachers and team leaders. Thanks for the support. We needed it.

A Big Thank you to all the parents, families, and friends who volunteered at this event. Without you it would not have been possible. Parents and families like you are what makes this school so special. We appreciate each and every one of you.
