  • The term of office for each board member is two years.
  • The Board meets the second Tuesday of each month at 6:00pm at the school.

Spring Cleaning…Dust off some books and give them a new home: The SHCS library is gladly accepting book donations!  If you have duplicate books at home or perhaps your children have outgrown some of their books, please feel free to donate them to our school library.  Additionally, if you have suggestions for specific books for the school library or any questions, contact Julia Lowe at juliaplowe@yahoo.com

Books, Books and more Books: Soldier Hollow Charter School has become a member of the Scholastic Literacy Partnership Program. This exciting program allows our school to order books through this particular program at an extremely discounted rate in an effort to distribute the books to students for free! For every $150.00 worth of books we purchase (at an amazing discount) we receive an additional 10 books for free. All books are utilized through the reading program and granted to students in various ways. SHCS has been able to purchase books for our students twice this winter ~once, through school funds and a second time through a SHCS family sponsored donation. With these two orders alone we received over 100 books to support our reading program while passing along free books to our students. We would like to place additional orders in April and May in an effort to increase the number of books to support our reading program.
We are inviting anyone that is interested in supporting our efforts to enhance the SHCS literacy program to make a donation for our April and May orders. You can donate any amount $1.00, $5.00, $10.00 or more! Our goal is to at least reach, the $150.00 minimum for each month in order to receive the additional 10 free books. Perhaps your family, family business or employer would like to be a literacy sponsor for a particular month and contribute the full $150.00!

Checks can be made out to SHCS with a memo for the Scholastic Literacy Partnership Program. If we each give a little we can give the gift of reading to so many more of our students!

Happy Reading!  If you have any questions and/or suggestions please feel free to contact, Janet Lundstam, parent volunteer, jepski1@msn.com.

Students who do more reading at home are better, more proficient readers and have higher math scores. -National Education Association

Way to go students on Another Amazing SHCS Olympics:

Sophia from Team Norway

Sophia inching her way to the finish line in the Obstacle Course.

Some Team USA athletes.

We saw smiles on everyone’s faces all day long. And why, you may wonder? Well, today was SHCS’s annual Winter Olympics.

This is the day where all of our students (K-8th) compete in a variation of these three races (K & 1st did separate races): Biathlon, Relay, and Obstacle course. The courses were challenging to say the least. In the Biathlon, children had to ski one lap, shoot five targets, do a penalty lap if necessary, and finally tag their teammate. In the Obstacle Course, students had to step over/ski under fences, do pushups, ski under tarps and around poles before reaching the finish line. And, finally students had to ski one lap around the school for the relay race.

Even though most children were exhausted after the events, some mustered up enough energy to race alongside the teachers and team leaders. Thanks for the support. We needed it.

A Big Thank you to all the parents, families, and friends who volunteered at this event. Without you it would not have been possible. Parents and families like you are what makes this school so special. We appreciate each and every one of you.

See you next year for another round of exciting competitions.

Share your thoughts with the Annual SHCS Parent Survey

Parents,
This is a very busy and exciting time at SHCS.
For those who didn’t have a chance to drop by, this week’s Science Fair was mind-boggling. Virtually every student presented an intriguing project.
The quality of their scientific thought, writing, and presentation skills was abundantly evident. Congratulations to our science teachers – Mr. & Ms. Gallo – and all of our faculty for the work they’ve done with our children!
At the same time, many of you – along with our students – are eagerly immersing yourselves in learning about your Olympic team’s nation, or helping our students develop their physical skills and talents on skis.
We’re very fortunate to have such great teachers, instructional leaders, and parent volunteers carrying for and motivating our children.
The SHCS board, faculty, staff and PTO are eager to learn more about how we can better serve and respond to the needs of students and families at SHCS.
Won’t you share your ideas, concerns and praise by completing the survey by February 15.

Start the survey.

We look forward to your feedback,

SHCS Board

National Blue Ribbon Schools Nomination: Incredible Honor for Our School

Incredible Honor for Our School

Of more than 1,000 public schools in the state of Utah, Soldier Hollow Charter School is one of only three public schools nominated by the Utah State Superintendent of Public Instruction in 2011 to be a National Blue Ribbon School.

Sponsored by the United States Department of Education, the Blue Ribbon School Program honors public and private elementary, middle, and high schools that are have performed particularly well on the most recent year’s state assessments.

While most schools in the county – and many statewide – struggled to meet their “Adequate Yearly Progress” this past year, we’re pleased that our students were well above the state standards in every area – language arts, mathematics, and science.
